How to Cancel a Booking as an Extra

Abstract MyCastingFile cover with a calendar and envelope shapes for an article about cancelling a booking

You cannot cancel a booking through the website. If you cannot make a day you are booked for, email or call the casting company that booked you. Only the casting company can remove the booking, so tell them as early as you can.

How to cancel

Follow these steps:

  1. Open Replies and find the booking under Confirmed bookings.
  2. Find the casting company's email address or phone number in the booking details.
  3. Write or call and say your name, the production, and the date.
  4. Say plainly that you cannot make it.
  5. Wait for casting to answer, and keep the answer.

Your Calendar also has an "email casting" link for this. It opens an email to the casting company so you do not have to look up the address.

Do not only mark yourself unavailable on the Calendar. That helps with future dates, but it does not remove a booking. The booking stays until the casting company removes it.

Tell them early

Tell casting the moment you know. Roles are often booked a day or two ahead, so a replacement can be found more easily when casting has time. A message the night before is much better than a message at 5 a.m.

A short message is enough. You do not need a long explanation. Say what happened, say you are sorry, and say you can no longer come.

What happens if you do not show up

Each casting company decides how it handles a no-show. Many will ask why you did not come and may give you another chance. Repeated no-shows usually end it, and some people call this "three strikes." The casting company may stop booking you.

Why reliability matters

Casting does not want to be up at 4 a.m. filling a 5 a.m. spot. When a booked extra does not arrive, someone has to find a replacement in the dark, and the set may start short. The casting company remembers who answered and who did not.

Being reliable is also how you get booked again. Movie Extra Work: Habits That Get You Booked Again lists the habits casting notices, and Casting Calls for Extras: What Happens After You Reply explains how a booking comes together.

Update your Calendar for other dates

After you cancel, check your Calendar. Tap a day once to mark it available and twice to mark it unavailable. It saves by itself.

An accurate Calendar helps casting find people for the right dates. It is not a reply, though. You still reply to each role you want. Film Extras Wanted: Keep Your Calendar Current explains how to keep it up to date.

Before you say yes to your next availability request, open your Calendar and check the date.
